Mateo Vargas

He/ Him

Mateo Vargas is a queer illustrator based in Zaragoza whose work explores masculinity, vulnerability, and emotional expression through highly detailed graphite and ink drawings. His portraits—often hyperrealistic and intimate—focus on male figures captured in raw, unguarded moments, from ecstasy to sorrow. Influenced by queer identity, psychological introspection, and the power of body language, Mateo’s work blurs the lines between realism and sensitivity, between control and chaos.

Through intense observation and delicate technique, his illustrations become powerful reflections on the inner lives of queer men, inviting the viewer to confront beauty, pain, and complexity with honesty and empathy.
