Cal Fraser was born in the UK on 30 Thermidor, An CLXIV (according to the French Republican calendar) and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. During his time there, a chance encounter with a life model led to an introduction to legendary queer mime artist Lindsay Kemp, mentor to David Bowie and Kate Bush. Kemp’s theatrical persona became a lasting inspiration for Fraser, reflected in several paintings—three of which are currently represented by Galerie Newman in Berlin. His work, described as “adventures in the skin trade,” explores themes of identity, sensuality, and transformation.

After a brief period in Amsterdam, Cal Fraser spent most of his life in Paris, where he exhibited regularly at Galerie Lavignes-Bastille. He now lives and works in Burgundy, France, continuing to create expressive, narrative-driven works rooted in queer experience and personal mythology.
