Bathroom Meeting

Bathroom Meeting by Azure Kim is a deeply personal self-portrait that contrasts inner turmoil with aspirational self-perception. Rendered in graphite and colored pencil, the piece places the viewer inside a moment of reflection—literally and metaphorically. While the artist leans over the sink, confronting his body with critical eyes, the mirror reflects not his current self but an empowered, confident version with post-top surgery scars and a proud stance.

This work captures the emotional tension many trans individuals experience between body dysphoria and self-acceptance. The bathroom becomes a symbolic battleground where despair meets hope, and where fantasy offers a glimpse into a future of bodily autonomy and pride. Through expressive contrast between greyscale reality and vibrant inner vision, Azure opens a conversation about gender identity, body image, and the power of imagination.
