Bottom Growth
Bottom Growth is an intimate and educational work that opens space for dialogue around trans masculine bodies and experiences often left unspoken. Through a close, carefully composed image, Samuel Avery centers the body as a site of change, affirmation, and self-understanding.
The presence of sunflowers—held gently against the body—introduces a symbolic language of growth, warmth, and vitality. Associated with light and expansion, they reflect the physical and emotional transformations that come with gender-affirming processes. Here, growth is not framed as clinical or abstract, but as something natural, embodied, and deeply personal.
By addressing a topic frequently misunderstood or erased, Avery uses photography as a tool for visibility and education. Bottom Growth challenges silence and stigma, offering a tender and affirming perspective that celebrates trans bodies as evolving, valid, and worthy of recognition.
