Flag Manifested

In Flag Manifested, Azure Kim explores a deeply personal reflection on trans identity, visibility, and love. The piece blends traditional colored pencil portraiture with comic-style panels to portray a moment of affirmation and emotional intimacy between the artist and his fiancé — also a trans man. While the main image captures a warm, shared gaze under a symbolic yellow halo, the surrounding black-and-white comic fragments give voice to internal dialogues shaped by dysphoria, societal perception, and the long journey of transitioning.

This work visualizes how trans joy and trans struggle can coexist. It honors the transformative power of being truly seen — not just as a gender identity, but as a whole person.
