Priest of Bastet

In Priest of Bastet, Arte Marciano reimagines the sacred rituals of Ancient Egypt through a contemporary queer lens. The painting centers on the figure of a priest devoted to Bastet — the goddess of beauty, fertility, joy, and the protective warmth of the hearth.

Rendered in rich, warm tones, the muscular body becomes both an object of devotion and a vessel of spiritual power. Torchlight glides across the skin, revealing a tattoo of Bastet that blurs the boundary between myth and identity. Behind him, fragments of temple iconography evoke an atmosphere of ceremony and mysticism.

Marciano creates a tableau where sensuality and reverence coexist, inviting viewers to step into a world where the divine is embodied, and where ancient ritual resonates with modern queer presence.
