In Pursuit of a Better Past
In Pursuit of a Better Past transforms a found wooden model of a house into an object of memory, ritual and emotional reconstruction. Discovered on the street after an afterparty marked by excess, the maquette was later covered inside and out with methodically poured layers of warm red wax. Traditionally associated with preservation, the wax becomes a material through which the artist reshapes the past rather than simply protecting it. The process, which also exposed the artist’s skin to the hot wax, turns preservation into a physical and intimate act. The work reflects on how memory can be altered, ritualised and preserved according to the version of the past we choose to carry forward.
