Barberini Faun
Barberini Faun is part of Archan Mukherjee’s photographic project Myth, Mystery & Men. Inspired by the ancient marble sculpture of the sleeping satyr, the work reinterprets the classical male nude through a genderqueer lens, replacing heroic idealisation with vulnerability, sensuality, and ambiguity.
The reclining body and the watermelon introduce softness, erotic symbolism, and playful disruption into the familiar art-historical pose. Mukherjee transforms the faun into a contemporary figure whose masculinity remains fluid, intimate, and open to multiple readings.
