Freedom Suspended
2011 · Digital Photography
Freedom Suspended stages rubber, rope and the body in a precise black-and-white composition. Held above the ground, the figure becomes both sculpture and active presence, commanding attention while remaining enclosed and bound. Hartmann approaches suspension as a shared act of focus rather than a contradiction of freedom: vulnerability, control and pleasure are held together in a scene shaped equally by the gaze of the observer and the experience of the suspended subject.
