In layer 2, Dario Mohr continues his investigation into visibility, containment, and the politics of display. A nude Black male figure appears behind a glass wall block, illuminated from above yet never fully revealed. The ridged surface fractures the body into unstable vertical fragments, turning the act of looking into an experience of distance, interruption, and denial.
Using oil on canvas, bottle wax, and LED light, Mohr transforms the language of the sconce into a queer meditation on exposure and protection. The work resists easy access: the figure is present, but cannot be fully possessed by the viewer’s gaze. Instead, layer 2 asks who is allowed to be seen clearly, who remains shielded, and how structures of viewing shape vulnerability, desire, and power.
